Consistency > Intensity

If we're going to be honest, maintaining or improving our physical can be very overwhelming. With the millions of workout plans and diets, it can get be hard to even know where to start. Often times as humans, when something seems complex, we tend to procrastinate. That is one of the reasons we are doing a series called Healthy Measures where it's all about learning small measures from each other in order to maintain our personal well being. This leads us to this weeks topic, physical health.

Here's one piece of advice I would give to someone who is just beginning on their journey of physical health:

Take one small step towards your physical health this week, don't even worry about the next steps afterwards. And whatever that small step is, be consistent with it. Whether it be going on a 5 minute walk or bike ride, just start somewhere.

  • What's the best time to exercise? Whenever you can stay consistent, day in day out.
  • What's the best time to eat lunch? Whenever you can stay consistent, day in day out.
  • What's the best time to go to sleep? Whenever you can stay consistent, day in day out.

Which is one is healthier: Working out for six straight hours on Sunday or working out one hour for six straight days? The answer is simple when we put it into context, working out one hour for six straight days is healthier because consistency trumps intensity.

Take a small step and remain consistent.
