The Nitty Gritty Stuff

What happens when you see the nitty gritty of a person?

I had a pretty tough conversation with close friend this past week. We sat down for lunch and he called me out on a pattern that he saw in my life. So many of us run from conversations because it exposed our substance, especially the bad parts. In some ways, our own bodies are naturally repulsed by the idea that we are insufficient in some fashion.

To see the nitty gritty of a person requires significant amounts of time spent with one another. After both people see the nitty gritty, at some point tension arises and boom: Hard conversation here we come. Doing life with people requires hard conversations on a regular basis. If those hard conversations are not present, you are not doing life with them. If you are not having hard conversations on a regular basis, do you really have intimate relationships?

Are you having hard conversations on a regular basis?
