Jesus and Robots
I have found myself in many Church services over the span of my life. Most of the time I have the privilege to be inspired by messages that affirm my choice in following Jesus. Many times, I don’t have to think about the subject of the message because it is clearly laid out for me.
With that said, as I read through the Bible, I am noticing something rather odd: Jesus was frustrating. He almost always explained the Kingdom of God in ways that forced people to analyze or get angry. Finally, the disciples confronted Jesus about his teaching methods, this was his answer:
“You’ve been given insight into God’s kingdom—you know how it works. There are others who need stories. But even with stories some of them aren’t going to get it:
Their eyes are open but don’t see a thing,
Their ears are open but don’t hear a thing.”
Jesus pushes the people around him to critically think with their whole selves. He had a way of challenging your logical assumptions while breaking your heart at the exact same time showing us that true insight into God’s Kingdom requires more than just listening or seeing but a whole a human experience. Jesus is hinting at the fact that our humanity is more than just logical robots. To have true revelation of the Kingdom of God, it demands both a mind shift and a heart shift, both logic and emotion.
