Hard Conversations

Sometimes we run from the things we need to do by running towards the things we like to do. Instead of writing that 5-page essay (Which some of you might be procrastinating right now) we play guitar. After the fact we try to convince ourselves that we were productive but it often makes us feel uneasy and ultimately never solves the most pressing matter.

We can often do this in our relationships. Instead of having that hard conversation about pain, insecurity, accountability, or an issue, we talk about anything else hoping that it will disappear. But it's hard to work past a problem if we don't even address that it's a problem in the first place.

  • Sometimes we need to tell our friends what they need to hear instead of what they want to hear.

  • Sometimes our friends need to tell us what we need to hear instead of what we want to hear.

What conversation are you running from? Whatever it is, that's probably the only conversation worth having. For healthy people, hard conversations only grow the relationship, not harm it.

Have that difficult conversation with that person
